Throughout January, our classrooms at A Child's Life Learning Center explored a series of stories that inspired reflection, kindness, and fresh beginnings. Children read Shante Keys and the New Year's Peas by Gail Piernas-Davenport, Bringing in the New Year by Grace Lin, and Squirrel's New Year's Resolution by Pat Miller.
These stories opened wonderful conversations about traditions, family, and setting goals for the year ahead. Our teaching team encouraged each child to share their own family's ways of celebrating and what they hope to learn or try in 2026.
Through these readings, children practiced early literacy skills such as sequencing, comprehension, and vocabulary building while also learning the deeper message of community and renewal. Books like these help children see that every new year is an opportunity to grow in kindness and curiosity, values we cherish at A Child's Life.
We're proud of how our children connected with these stories, showing enthusiasm for reading and a growing sense of empathy and understanding for others.
