At A Child’s Life Learning Center, November is all about gratitude and togetherness. This month’s Literacy Spotlight invites children and families to explore what it means to be thankful, for the people we love, the meals we share, and the stories that bring us closer together.
Each book was carefully chosen to highlight the many ways families give thanks and celebrate community:
Gather Grateful encourages children to recognize the beauty in friendship, kindness, and shared experiences. The story reminds us that gratitude grows when we come together, just as we do in our classrooms and families each day.
Two List Thanksgiving helps children explore how families celebrate differently, yet share the same heart for giving and gathering. By making two lists, one of traditional American dishes and another of favorite Korean foods, children learn that Thanksgiving can look many ways, but its spirit of gratitude and connection is universal.
I Am Thankful invites children to name the blessings that matter most to them. Whether it’s family, faith, or the joy of playing outside, this reflection helps them see how everyday moments are worth celebrating.
Together, these stories remind us that Thanksgiving is more than a meal. It is a celebration of community, inclusion, and the love that binds us all. Every teacher at A Child’s Life Learning Center is encouraged to use these books in the classroom, helping children grow in appreciation for both their own families and the diverse ways others give thanks.
Throughout November, we will read, talk, and create together, building a season of gratitude that reflects our mission to nurture children in heart, spirit, and learning.
